More than 400 people from near and far flocked to the historic town of Warwick on Saturday, December 5 for the annual Winding Through Warwick holiday house tour, helping raise nearly $32,000 for Mount Alverno Center, an assisted living center in the heart of the village.
Presented by the Warwick Health Foundation, the tour featured six of Warwick’s finest properties decked lavishly in holiday splendor and Christmas tradition. From the grand 19th century Victorian Warwick Bed & Breakfast along Warwick’s esteemed Maple Avenue, to a European Country inspired alpaca farm set amid the town’s rolling countryside, each home was a showcase of holiday collections, décor and festive entertainment ideas.
The tour also included a Warwick property of distinction, Baird’s Tavern on Main Street. Owned and maintained by the Warwick Historical Society, the tavern was decorated with an abundance of holiday greens and candles, as was the style in the 18th century. The tavern was visited by both Martha and George Washington, who traveled along the Kings Highway during the Revolutionary War. Other exceptional homes on the tour were each filled with traditional Christmas collectibles and family keepsakes, including one with a display of 32 nativities from around the world. Also seen on the tour were some artistic and creative decorations such as a tower of books Christmas “tree” and a mannequin “tree” filled with pine boughs.
To add to the festivities, trios and quartets of Warwick Valley High School student musicians performed holiday music in each home and the Warwick Valley High School Meistersingers filled Mount Alverno Center with holiday song during registration.
