Affordable Care Act

What you need to know about the new health care exchange and how Bon Secours can help.

Due to the passage of the health care law, The Affordable Care Act (ACA), you may now be able to afford insurance, even if you have never been able to before. This allows individuals and small businesses to purchase healthcare insurance. As of Jan. 1, 2014, all Americans are required to have health insurance and through (the healthcare exchange marketplace), some may receive payment assistance, discounts or tax credits to help cover the costs of coverage.

A visit to can help many uninsured Americans determine if they qualify for Affordable health coverage. The Healthcare Insurance Marketplace offers side by side comparisons of health insurance products and plans.  Most of which are available through private insurance companies.  With just one application, enrollment can be quick. Plus, Customer Service is available 24/7 for your convenience.

You must apply before March 31, 2014 to gain coverage for 2014. If not, you may have to pay a penalty. This penalty starts at $95 per individual in 2014 and can increase to thousands of dollars depending on your income and the size of your family. Through, individuals will learn if they qualify for payment assistance and special discounts on deductibles, copays and co-insurance.

What Does Coverage Mean for Me?

Through, all will have access to available elements of the ACA, including:

• No one can be denied coverage due to a pre-existing health condition or lose coverage because a family member becomes sick

• Insurance companies will be prohibited from charging women more than men for the same coverage

• All health insurance plans will cover services such as preventive care, infant care, mental health care, and substance abuse treatment

• No lifetime limits can be imposed on health insurance coverage

What if you miss March 31st open enrollment?

If you miss the open enrollment deadline, of March 31, 2014, you’ve likely missed your chance to buy coverage for the year. The next open enrollment period would start October 15, 2014 thru December 7, 2014 and this coverage would be effective for 2015.
