Bon Secours Charity Health System (BSCHS), the parent healthcare system of Bon Secours Community Hospital (BSCH) in Port Jervis, announced that it has been granted up to $4.3 million from the New York State Department of Health through its Interim Access Assurance Fund (IAAF). The hospital will initially receive $1.25 million in funding beginning in August.

That funding, along with the remaining monies, will sustain operations at the hospital through March of 2015, as BSCHS works to design and implement a long-term, sustainable healthcare model focused on the specific and distinctive healthcare needs of the greater Port Jervis community. The funding will be distributed via monthly allocations that are directly tied to the institution’s financial performance.

“We are grateful to the New York State Department of Health for partnering with us to help sustain our healthcare ministry in Port Jervis,” said Dr. Mary Leahy, CEO of Bon Secours Charity Health System. “Because of Bon Secours Community Hospital’s importance to Port Jervis, the hospital has been granted funds to stabilize operations and continue to provide critical services to our community as we work collaboratively with community stakeholders to develop a healthcare delivery model that is both financially sustainable and one that meets the long-term needs of the people we serve.”

The IAAF is a short-term funding solution designed to stabilize safety net hospitals, and is one component of the state’s Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment (DSRIP) program. DSRIP funding is made possible by reinvesting $8 billion statewide in savings generated by New York State’s Medicaid Redesign Team reforms. Bon Secours Community is one of 22 hospitals and five large public hospital systems statewide to have received IAAF funding.
